How are extracted?

The most used method is steam distillation of water. The principle is simple: steam is injected into a vessel (still) filled with the plant from which it is desired to extract the essential oil. In flowing through the plants, water vapor is in charge of its active ingredients. The vapor thus enriched is directed in a refrigerated conduit and in contact with the cold form of droplets which are collected in a container. The liquid that is reveals, on its surface, the essential oil (the latter being less dense than water). There is more to the levy. The rest of the liquid will be used to create a floral water (hydrosol). The other technique, used for citrus fruits (Orange, Lemon …) is to press them mechanically peel and cold. New technology is the extraction with CO2.
